 Simple Wave
and Shriners Hospitals for Children Form Philanthropic Partnership
Shriners
Hospitals for Children and the California-based company Simple
Wave have formed a new philanthropic partnership
to help improve the quality of life for children
cared for by the international health care system.
“When we started the company earlier this year, we knew we wanted to begin
giving back immediately,” said Simple Wave. “With
the opportunity to succeed, there’s an opportunity to give.”
Simple Wave is the manufacturer of the CaliBowl®, a bowl with a contemporary
design and a patent-pending no-spill lip, which was recently featured on Oprah’s
O-List. Whether eating ice cream, dips and salsas, or mixing and beating, the
bowl prevents spills and makes cooking, eating and entertaining more fun and
exciting.
For some people, especially children and people with disabilities,
something as common as eating from a bowl can cause frustration
and require assistance
from others. The inside of the CaliBowl® is inverted like a wave, with
a lip at the top that helps push the food onto the utensil, making it easier
to
eat.
Simple Wave immediately saw a natural fit with their product
and the patients cared for by Shriners Hospitals for Children.
"
We had one of our patients with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy use the bowl," said
Sandy Smith, director of rehabilitation services at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Tampa. “His
mother reported that he was able to feed himself chocolate ice cream without
spilling it on the table, his shirt or on his face.”
“
Everyone that is a part of CaliBowl® is very family-oriented and believes
that the continued success of our world lies in our children,” said
Calibowl. “We immediately
thought of Shriners Hospitals for Children for what we call our ‘Charit-a-Bowl’ giving
program.”
Simple Wave’s “Charit-a-bowl” program “will
allow us to enhance the lives of children by helping them make
the mundane magnificent
and the frustrating feasible,” said Calibowl. “It will improve
the children’s quality of life by allowing them to do what most may
take for granted - independent eating.”
“
Simple Wave shares our compassion for helping children,” said Wayne Witzcak,
director of corporate giving and sponsorships for Shriners Hospitals for Children. “When
you speak with their team, you sense they have a clear vision of the way they
want to help our communities. We are fortunate that our cause has become theirs
and are confident that the partnership we develop will continue to improve
the quality of the life for the children in our care.”
As part of their commitment, Simple Wave plans to donate bowls
to the health care system, create a special Shriners Hospitals
for Children-branded
CaliBowl® and
create giving opportunities for their customers.
“
We want to be able to empower, to enable…to give kids the hope
that they will be able to do the everyday things and to do them in
a way that not only
looks normal, but exceptional,” said Calibowl.
